Japanese Secateurs - Toyama Hamono

$159.95

Order by 10am for same day delivery Mon-Fri

Every delivery donates to Greenfleet

These are the secateurs that we use & recommend at Botany. Toyama Hamono are world-renowned Japanese master craftsmen, forging premium quality shears since 1861 in the famous blacksmithing town of Sanjo.

The method they use to create their tools is the same method applied to creating Japanese swords. They are hard-wearing, extremely long lasting and will maintain their sharp edge. Toyama Hamono secateurs are made from a single piece of carbon steel which is renowned for its strength and durability.

Each pair is meticulously adjusted and balanced for the perfect cut. The blackened colour of the handles is made using fire, without the need for any chemicals. These snips are extremely comfortable in the hand with an ergonomic design that has been honed over many years.

Amazing for daily use; they will not cause cramping in your hands and are well worth the investment - you will never need to buy another pair of snips again!

DETAILS

  • Japanese made, forged carbon steel.
  • 190mm floristry secateurs with shock absorber. Blade is 60mm.
  • Each pair comes beautifully boxed with a blade cover included.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

Wipe clean after each use, particularly on the blade. Recommended maximum cutting capacity is 15mm green wood. Do not use to cut wire or artificial flowers. Only to be used with fresh plant material. Can be conditioned with camellia oil to maintain and prevent rust. The blade can be resharpened with a whetstone to it's original condition. If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, take it to a blade sharpener that specialises in Japanese blades.

We take sustainability very seriously here at Botany.

This is the only product we stock that is not Australian made. The quality of these secateurs is so high that they will last your whole career.

It is more sustainable to buy a good product once than it is to buy a low quality product over and over, and there is nothing comparable on the Australian market.

Although the carbon emissions are higher with this product, we have already offset this with Greenfleet on your behalf.

Every delivery is offset with an automatic donation to Greenfleet, helping to reduce the impact of our vehicle emissions.

Sending a gift with Botany means not only are you supporting local flower farms & artisans, you are also making a positive impact on the environment; one delivery at a time!

FAQ

WHEN WILL THE FLOWERS ARRIVE?

We deliver to schools and cafes by 3pm and to businesses and residential addresses by 5pm. In order reduce our emissions, make our runs efficient, and keep our delivery prices low, we do not offer timed deliveries.

WHAT IF THEY AREN'T HOME?

If there is a safe and sheltered spot to leave your flowers we will pop them there until the lucky person returns! If there is nowhere safe, we will contact the recipient to organise an alternative, such as leaving them with a neighbour. Make sure you include their phone number just in case!

They HAVE PETS, ARE FLOWERS OK?

Whilst consuming any kind of plant material may give pets an upset tummy, there are also some plants that are considered toxic. Please let us know if there are pets inside that might be tempted to nibble.

Can I Track My Delivery?

Whilst we don't have tracking in place, you will receive an email upon delivery so you'll know exactly when they receive their flowers!

About us

grown not flown

We are super passionate about sustainability and love supporting local, small scale growers. They get really excited when you enjoy their flowers, trust us!

waste not

Our packaging is reusable, recyclable or compostable - all of it! Because we don't use imported or dyed flowers, you can safely pop them straight in the green waste.

no floral foam

You may have noticed that we don't use boxes for our flowers. This is to avoid floral foam which is fine-celled thermoset phenolic plastic. It is listed in SARA Hazard Categories as both an Acute Health Hazard and a Chronic Health Hazard.
